Organize: My Handbag Set-Up

Hello my lovelies, I hope the week is treating you well and good. I was inspired to do this post after watching quite a few handbag organization videos on  YouTube  and so I thought I’d share with you how I changed my handbag from a cluttered dump to clean and organized.

Firstly, throw out all old/torn receipts, lolly wrappers, and whatever other random bits of paper that you’re convinced just magically appeared in your bag and straight into the bin. If you have small crumbs, dust or fluff, grab either a lint roller or a section of sticky tape and use it to pick up those unwanted little critters.

Second, is your purse. Another item subject to overflowing receipts, paper, discount cards and goodness knows what else. Again, throw out the unwanted receipts, and put away the important ones you need for tax purposes. Now time to tackle those discount cards you’ve been piling up, by sorting out which ones you use the most and put aside the ones you use the least…you’ll probably be surprised as to how many you have ( I know I was >.>).

Take the cards you use the least and put them in a small cardholder or any type of small purse that can fit a bunch cards. The one I use is leather, but you can find plenty of cheap ones at all good accessory stores.

Now, for those important items such as your drivers license, key-card and credit card (or cards if you’re like me) and place these items in a discreet area of your wallet where no-one will notice (except you of course :p). This is handy for those with who have a purse that zips all the way around, or (like me) you have a wallet that’s a bi-fold (meaning it opens like a book).

If you’re wallet is not as discreet, try using a wrist-let type purse instead as a majority of them have credit card slots inside making it a perfect hiding place for those hard to replace cards. Use the rest of the available card slots for those discount cards.

Next up, are your car keys. If you’re someone who has half a million keys that open half a million doors, you might want to get yourself a key wallet; preferably one that has one large ring and several little small hooks on the other side.

The large ring you can use to put your car keys on, and the small hooks you can put house keys, garage keys…and every other key you have. If most of your keys look the same, try getting them coloured in different colours such as green: house keys, yellow: garage keys etc…not only will it look good, it’ll also keep you organized as well.

Now for the make-up bag. Pick out the items you use the most for touch-ups such as lip balm, lipstick, compact mirror for example and place them into a smaller size make-up bag. Not only will your bag feel lighter, but you’ll be able to navigate easily around your bag alot easier. For those other items (you know, when TOM  comes to visit) you can put these in either a small little clutch, or if your bag has a back zip pocket, you can place them in there as it’s much more discreet, and well hidden thanks to the contents in your handbag.

As for my iPhone, I don’t usually put a case on it is usually in my bag for a majority of the day, however when I do use a case, it is usually  this cute little orange one with a cat lying down at the back of the case. Super cute ^^. If you carry an iPad with you on a regular basis,  invest in a good quality cover that will keep it safe and protected.

And that’s pretty much how I organized by handbag. I hope these organization tips helped you in any way, and if you have any other ideas or suggestions on how you personally organize your handbag, feel free to leave them in the comments below or you can tweet them to me on Twitter @meiakane.

See you all in my next post.

My Essentials: The Make-Up Bag Edition

Hello, Hello one and all, I hope you all having a fabulous week doing whatever joyful activity it is you’re into.

Today, I thought I’d do a post devoted to my own make-up essentials that I carry with me in my make-up bag on a daily basis. Firstly, I will preface this blog by mentioning that it has taken me quite a bit of trial and error in terms of working out what items I put into my small make-up bag. I may carry a small one now but I used to carry a somewhat larger sized make-up bag back in the day….>.>.

So here is what I carry in my make-up bag:

Firstly is my trusty MAC Moisture Select Cover Concealer. It hides the redness around my nose and any slightly dark areas on my face effectively; especially if I’ve had a nice hot shower after a good sweat session at the gym, as my skin is feeling fresh, and this concealer also adds a little extra brightness to my face.

Second is my Scandal BB Cream Compact. If I’m going out somewhere after work (or the gym) I will keep this with me and use it in conjunction with my concealer, as the BB Cream will give my face that nice fresh/barely there look while hiding any slight imperfections ie: blemishes etc.

Thirdly is my MAC Gel Eyeliner pot. I really love this eyeliner as it holds well and doesn’t smudge. A little goes a long way for me. I use this with my Scandal eye liner brush and it never fails me.

Fourth is the famous MAC Paint Pot in ”Painterly”. I never used to be fan of eye primers as my eyelids aren’t oily, but I got this anyway for those ”emergency/last min outings”. I am now in love with it…especially with my gel eyeliner.

Fifth is my other favourite eyeliner (which I sometimes double as an all over eyeshadow) by Clio, which is part of the ”gel espresso” range. Teamed with my gel eyeliner, it looks simple yet classy.

Next is my Elizabeth Arden Ceramide Mascara. Not only is it designed to give the appearance of fuller lashes, it also helps lash growth as well, giving a light and natural look to the lashes.

As it’s Winter here in Australia, I tend to skip on the Powder and Bronzers as I prefer to keep my skin moisturized, and powders tend to dry my skin out a little more than I like during the colder months.

However, during summer, when I do use Bronzers or Powder, I use the MAC Mineralize Skin Finish in Light which gives my skin a nice natural finish. And MAC Bronzing Powder in Golden for a natural sun-kissed look.

I hope you all enjoyed this post. Do you have a similar set up to me or something different?. Feel free to share them in the comments below, or you can tweet them to me on twitter @meiakane. Otherwise, I’ll see you in my next post.

Inspire: decoration/spring cleaning

Hello one and all, I hope you are all doing wonderful this week ^^.

I know this is a non-beauty related post, but I felt inspired to do this after talking with Luci about how bored she’s been lately, due to a rather….”quiet” work schedule. So I thought I’d come up with a quick post on the things to do to not only beat the boredom blues but give you a kickstart to your spring cleaning season.

Organize your jewellery.

I’m sure (like me) that most of you probably have your jewllery heaped up in a pile higher than Mount Everest and the thought of trying to find your favourite amongst the carnage is a nightmare (the thought of undoing tangle necklaces is daunting enough T__T). However, with just a large pin board/empty frame, a box of push pins andsome string, you’ll end up with your very own necklace display that will rival any jewellery store window in no time.

Re-fresh your windows.

Now this can be anything from just adding cute little decorations to your curtains, changing the curtain tie to your favourite ribbon or material. Or, if you’re after something more dramatic, simply take down the measurements of your curtains, head to your nearest fabric store to pick out your favourite fabric, sew it all up, and voila, you have a new set of curtains. However if you’re after a more simpler approach (or you don’t have a sewing machine) just visit any homewares store such as Ikea, or bed bath and table (if you’re from Australia), or whatever homewares store you love, pick out the curtains that will fit your room’s windows and your done.

Move furniture around.

This doesn’t necessarily mean desks, vanity tables etc…simply moving small pieces of furniture such as lamps,  jewellery boxes, shoe racks etc can give your room a fresh new feel. However if you are after a complete overhaul, moving large pieces of furniture around (make sure you ask someone stronger than you to help you out if you can’t move it yourself) can really give your room the look of extra space without having to compromise a-lot, especially if your room isn’t very big.

Add some scented candles.

With the Winter season slowly creeping up here in Australia, the idea of having a few scented candles lying around adds a really nice homely touch and warmth to any room. My personal favourites are usually soy-based wax candles of vanilla, apple, or sandalwood scent.

Light up your lanterns.

I am a sucker for paper lanterns, as they give off that nice gentle glow, and for me, they give that feeling of being transported to somewhere mysterious like the Orient or beyond. They are probably more in-tune with warm summer nights, but I think you could use them for any time of the year.

Clean out your closet.

Yep, that’s right, I’m sure you probably have a bunch of clothes lying around that have either never been worn or have only been worn once and thrown away into the already growing endless heap of clothes. There are plenty of ways to deal with this, firstly though, you need to sort out the good condition clothes from the bad conditon clothes. In other words, if it’s ripped or has a stain on it that can’t be removed…toss it into a garbage bag.

Now here’s the hard part. For the clothes that are in good condition, try them all on so you can work out which ones are too big/small for you, and put those into a large tote bag. Donate these to goodwill. I’ve done this alot of times and the feeling of donating clothes to those who will wear it much more than you will, is a very nice feeling indeed. For the rest of your clothes that you’ve either never worn, or only worn once, you can sell these on amazon or ebay or hold your own garage sale (i.e. confessions of a shopaholic style if you like ^^) and might find yourself with a nice small profit.

And that’s that. I hope you all enjoyed reading this post and maybe it might inspire those of you who are considering doing a bit of spring cleaning, or just cleaning out old stuff in general. If you have any other ideas or suggestions on spring cleaning or just beating the boredom blues in general, feel free to leave your suggestions in the comments below, and I will see you all in my next post.
